Recreation Program Supervisor

Recreation Program SupervisorPosition ObjectiveUnder the direction of the Recreation Supervisors, the Recreation Program Supervisor will guide, train, assign, advise, motivate and direct staff and promote and manage all phases of assigned recreation areas and staff.
The goal is to ensure program success and safety in each area.
Examples of assignments includeSpecial events, camps, leisure programs and youth sports including such programs as t-ball, soccer, flag football, Story-time in the park, Movies and Music in the park, Puppet wagon, Story Trails, etc.
Essential Administration Duties and ResponsibilitiesCoordinate, schedule, promote and evaluate programs, sports and special events.
Plan and lead leisure, sports and special programs.
Maintain records and documentation for youth programming and training.
Act as a liaison between parents, staff and/or volunteer coaches on practice plans, teaching methods and skill development and between parents and staff during leisure programs.
If assigned to sports, document, compile and maintain records on a monthly basis for youth sports programming and training.
Assist the Recreation Supervisor in planning and coordinating all required staff training, including orientation, first aid, games/activities/crafts, managing disputes, safety, and promoting an active, healthy and fun environment with children.
Order and organize supplies need for all programs and activities.
Monitor, clean and put away equipment.
Participate in the hiring process of Recreation Assistants.
Put together summer staffing schedule and maintain weekly schedule and records.
Complete job performance evaluations for Recreation Assistants.
Prepare safety and incident reports and bring all safety issues to the Recreation Supervisors attention.
Peripheral Duties and ResponsibilitiesMonitor programs to ensure a positive and safe environment.
Ensures city policies and procedures are followed.
Work with Park and Facilities Maintenance staff to ensure program site(s) is/are safe and clean.
Respond to emergencies.
Administer first aid and/or CPR as needed until help arrives.
Attends meetings, seminars or other training as needed.
Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Minimum QualificationsMust possess and maintain a valid MN Drivers License and must be at least 16 years old.
Must have experience assisting with recreation programs and /or sports or have completed post-high school education in a recreation-related field or equivalent related field.
Preferred QualificationsPrefer experience supervising others.
Prefer post high school education in recreation field.
Prefer experience assisting with events or sports.

Salary RangeThe starting wage for this position is currently $14.
60 per hour.
The entire salary range for the position is currently $14.
60 to $16.
12 per hour.
This position is seasonal with no benefits.
Please Note:
The pay range for this position is being reviewed and may be increasing as soon as April 2022.
Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of a variety of games, activities and crafts of interest to children or knowledge of sports such as t-ball, flag football and soccer.
Some knowledge of scheduling and records management.
Ability to promote teamwork and a positive work environment for staff.
Ability to lead staff in implementing recreational programs, sports and events.
Some knowledge of safety concerns in a recreational environment and ability to respond to injuries and accidents and to appropriately call for assistance as needed.
Ability to promote a healthy, fun and inclusive environment so all participants enjoy their experience.
Ability to provide clear direction, training and support to staff.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City staff, parents and the public.
Ability to operate a vehicle and bend, lift, carry, twist, turn, reach, stoop, crouch sit and stand.
Ability to work outside in heat and humidity.
