Assistant City Engineer

This class is responsible for design, review and overseeing construction of public infrastructure, including construction coordination, inspection and documentation for city projects.
Also responsible for documentation and mapping of improvements for use with future projects.
- Public project design and construction - prepare feasibility reports, engineer's estimates, plans and specifications.
Perform review of consultant plans and specifications and assist with design.
Conduct pre-construction meetings and any other project related meetings.
Assist with establishment of survey control.
Perform site inspections to verify compliance with plans and specifications.
Coordinate surveying, field changes and testing.
Prepare pay estimates, change orders, punchlists and permit applications.
Coordination of work with area residents, business owners, landowners, developers, etc.
Private project review and inspection - perform review of developer prepared plats, plans, specifications and permits.
Assist with preparation of development contracts.
Conduct pre-construction meetings and any other project related meetings.
Perform site inspections to verify compliance with plans and specifications, as well as all applicable City requirements.
Prepare punch lists and coordinate follow-up inspections.
Supervise Engineering employees by doing performance reviews, assigning tasks as needed, monitoring quality of work, answer employee questions, and enforcing City and department policies.
Generate reports/documentation/maps - assist with annual sewer, water and street reports.
Create and update City Engineering Guidelines and Standard Detail Plates.
Respond to/coordinate various resident issues and concerns; problem solving, easement acquisition, right-of-entry acquisition, project coordination and communication.
Provide emergency support for sewer and water repairs, including utility location verification, traffic control and method of repair.
Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering or a related field with municipal engineering training, 3 years of related engineering, surveying and construction experience; customer service and project management experience; supervisory experience preferred; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties listed abovePosition requires:
